Put a sign-up form on any page Sam builds and everyone who fills it in lands in Leads, with the page they came from and how they found it. From there, Sam can send each lead to your email platform or CRM, confirm the address, welcome them, tag them and let you know they arrived.
- →A page in Webpages. See Publish a page Sam built if you have not made one yet.
- →To send leads on, your email platform or CRM connected to Sam. See Connect your email platform.
Step 1 - Ask Sam for a sign-up form
Open the page in the editor and ask for it in the chat, for example "add a sign-up form for the free comic under the video". Or include it when you first describe the page: "a landing page for my free guide, with an email sign-up".
Step 2 - Set up the form
Select the form on the page to open its Signup Form settings.
- Fields — Email is always on. Add Name and Phone if you want them.
- Button label — the words on the button, such as "Send Me the Comic".
- Lead tag — a label added to every lead from this form, such as
webinar-may, so you can tell sign-ups apart later. - GDPR consent checkbox — shows a tick box with your Consent text, such as "I agree to receive emails."
- After submit — Show a thank-you message with the text you write, or Redirect to a URL, such as your own thank-you page.
- PDF download — give every sign-up a file, such as a free guide. Select Upload PDF, or Choose from media to use one already in My Media. After they submit, the PDF downloads automatically, with a link under the thank-you message in case it does not start.
- →The thank-you message is what delivers the file, so with a PDF added, After submit stays on Show a thank-you message. Redirect to a URL cannot be used at the same time.
Select Apply changes.
Step 3 - Publish the page
The form collects sign-ups once the page is live. Select Publish, or Publish Changes if the page was already published. Fill the form in yourself once to check it works.
Step 4 - See who signed up
Go to Webpages and select the Leads tab.
- The strip at the top shows total leads, this month, this week, the page bringing in the most, and how many are Awaiting confirmation if you use double opt-in.
- The table shows each lead's page, traffic source, campaign, tags, where it was sent (Routed to) and when it arrived. Search by name or email, or narrow it by time, page or source.
- Select a lead to see everything recorded about where it came from, and whether it reached each of your connected tools.
- Export all leads downloads them as a CSV. Tick rows to export just those.
Step 5 - Choose where leads go
Next to the table, open the Routing tab.
- Local list — every lead is saved in Sam first, then copied to the tools you switch on below. This is always on.
- Connected destinations — each connected email platform has its own card. Switch it on and choose the Destination list new leads should join. The card counts how many leads it has been sent.
- Advanced — lists your pages. Untick a page to keep its leads in Sam only, without sending them to that tool.
- Where leads went — at the bottom, a count of leads by destination, by page and by traffic source.
Need a tool that isn't there? Select Connect an integration to browse email and CRM tools in the Marketplace.
Step 6 - Choose what happens after a sign-up
Open the Settings tab, next to Routing.
- Double opt-in — Sam emails each new lead a confirmation link and holds the lead until they select it. Held leads are not sent anywhere, and show as Awaiting confirmation.
- Welcome email — Sam sends a short welcome for you the first time someone signs up. The wording is set by Sam and cannot be edited.
- Tag by capture page — adds the page's name as a tag, alongside the form's own Lead tag.
- Tag by traffic source — adds where the visitor came from as a tag.
- New lead alert — emails you each time a lead arrives.
- Daily summary — one email each morning listing the day's leads. Nothing is sent on a day with none.
- →Sam sends its confirmation and welcome emails itself. If your email platform also sends a welcome or a confirmation when someone joins a list — a Mailchimp automation, for example — the lead gets both. Switch it on in one place, not both.
- ✓One list of every sign-up, across all your pages.
- ✓Where each one came from — the page, the traffic source and the campaign.
- ✓Leads in your email platform or CRM without copying anything across.
Sending leads to your other tools
Email platforms appear under Connected destinations on the Routing tab once connected. Mailchimp and Kit work this way. If your email platform does not show a card there, export a CSV and import it.
CRMs — when HubSpot, GoHighLevel or Keap is connected and shared with Everyone on your team, every new lead is added there as a contact. A connection set to Only me or to specific people does not receive leads, so your team's sign-ups never land in one person's private account.
Open a lead to check where it went. Each connected tool shows whether the lead was delivered, and the reason if it was not.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if someone signs up twice?
You get one lead, not two. Sam matches on the email address and updates the lead it already has, and it is not sent to your CRM a second time.
Why did my lead get two welcome emails?
Sam's Welcome email is on, and your email platform sends its own welcome when someone joins the list. Turn off one of them. The same goes for confirmation emails and Double opt-in.
Can I change what the welcome email says?
No, the wording is fixed. If you want your own words, leave Sam's welcome off and send one from your email platform instead.
Can I stop Sam keeping a copy of my leads?
No. Every lead is saved to the local list in Sam, and that cannot be switched off. Sending to your other tools happens on top of it.
What if someone leaves the consent box unticked?
Sam keeps the lead in Leads but does not send it to any of your connected tools. A form without the consent checkbox sends as normal.
My lead says Local list only.
It was not sent anywhere. Check the tool's card on the Routing tab is switched on, has a Destination list chosen, and that the page is ticked under Advanced. With Double opt-in on, a lead is only sent once it is confirmed. For a CRM, check it is shared with Everyone.
Can I send a download?
Yes. Add a PDF under PDF download in the form's settings. It downloads automatically once someone signs up, with a link under the thank-you message as a backup.
Can I redirect to my own page and still send the PDF?
No. The PDF is delivered by the thank-you message, so Redirect to a URL is not available while a PDF is added. To send people to your own page instead, remove the PDF and link to the file from that page.
