Connect a custom domain so your pages publish on your own web address instead of the one Sam provides.
Select the profile icon in the bottom left corner, choose Settings, then Domains under Business Line.
You have two options: buy a domain through Sam, or connect one you already own. Either way Sam handles the security certificate and routing, so your pages work over https without you configuring anything.
You can connect more than one, which is useful when different campaigns or offers want their own address.
Buying a Domain Through Sam
Select Buy a domain and search for a name.
Sam suggests available names based on what you search, each with its yearly price. Prices vary a lot by extension, so it's worth scrolling the list rather than taking the first result.
Select Buy this domain on the one you want. Sam registers it and keeps it renewed, so there is nothing to set up afterward.
Connecting a Domain You Already Own
Select Add one you already own and enter your domain name.
Sam then shows the DNS records to add. Add them at your domain registrar, wherever you bought the domain, in its DNS settings.
- Record 1: type A, name @, value 54.83.0.25
- Record 2: type A, name @, value 44.206.16.164
- Record 3 (optional): type CNAME, name www, value edge.getsam.bot
The two A records point your domain at Sam so your pages load and Sam can secure them. The www record makes the www version of your address work as well. Use the copy buttons next to each value rather than typing them.
If your registrar already has an A record on @ pointing somewhere else, such as a parking page or an old site, remove it, or some visitors will reach the old address instead of your pages. Only add the www record if www isn't already in use for something you want to keep.
Once the records are saved, go back to Domains and select Check verification on the domain row. It shows Pending verification until Sam confirms the records. The claim expires seven days after you add the domain if the records aren't verified, and the date is shown on the row. Added the wrong domain? Select Cancel claim.
NOTE: DNS changes are not instant. It can take a while for them to take effect, so if your domain is not working right away, give it time before assuming something went wrong.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a custom domain?
A: No. Your account comes with a domain, so you can publish pages without owning one. A custom domain is for when you want your own address on the pages you share.
Q: Can I connect more than one domain?
A: Yes. Connect as many as you need.
Q: What do I do with the DNS records Sam gives me?
A: Add them at your domain registrar, in its DNS settings, then select Check verification on the domain row. The two A records point your domain at Sam, and the optional www record makes the www version of your address work too.
Q: Do I need the www record?
A: No, it is optional. Add it if you want www.yourbusiness.com to reach your pages as well as yourbusiness.com. Skip it if www already runs something you want to keep.
Q: I added the records but my domain is not working.
A: DNS changes take time to spread, so wait a while before troubleshooting. If it still is not working after that, check the records at your registrar match exactly what Sam gave you, with no extra spaces or missing characters.
Q: Do I have to set up a security certificate myself?
A: No. Sam handles that, whether you bought the domain here or connected one you already own.
Q: Can a page show at my domain itself, not only at a path after it?
A: Yes. Set the page as your homepage from its three-dot menu in Webpages, and it shows at the domain itself, such as yourbusiness.com. See Publish a page Sam built.
Q: What happens to a domain I bought through Sam?
A: Sam registers it and keeps it renewed, so it stays yours without you managing it separately.
