Put Sam to Work: Automations 4 min read Updated Sep 2, 2026

Choose where your reports arrive

Where a report lands is decided by three things you choose at setup: who you ask for it, when you tell it to run, and whether you want it sent on to your inbox.

Every scheduled report is an automation, and an automation belongs to whoever you created it with. Ask the Ads Specialist and the report lands in the Ads Specialist chat. Ask Sam AI and it lands in Sam AI. From there Sam can also email it to you, so the report reaches you whether or not you open Sam that morning.

Step 1 - Pick who the report belongs to

Ask in the chat you actually open. A report waiting in a specialist you visit once a month is a report you will not read.

  • Sam AI — anything spanning more than one area. Calendar, tasks, store revenue and ad spend in one place.
  • Ads Specialist — paid performance across Meta, Google and TikTok, kept next to your ads work.
  • Any other specialist — reporting on that specialist's own area, sitting with the rest of its output.

You can run several reports across different owners. A daily ads number on the Ads Specialist and a weekly business review on Sam AI is a common split.

Step 2 - Set when it lands

Tell Sam the timing in the same sentence you use to ask for the report. Be specific about three things:

  • The time — "8 AM" rather than "the morning".
  • The days — every day, weekdays only, Mondays.
  • The timezone — say it explicitly if you are not somewhere obvious, or Sam will assume.

“Send it at 8 AM Central, Monday to Friday.”

Timing matters more than it sounds. A report that lands before you start work gets read; one that arrives mid-afternoon gets skimmed. Pick the moment you would actually act on it.

Step 3 - Say if you want it emailed

Sam will often raise this itself when it sets the report up. If it does not, ask:

“Email it to me as well.”

The report still lands in the chat and the Workbench; email is an addition rather than a replacement. It is the difference between a report you have to go and look at and one that finds you.

Step 4 - Find a report after it arrives

Each report shows up in two places.

In the chat with whoever owns it, as a message you can read and reply to. Asking a follow-up question about the numbers works exactly as it would if you had asked for the report by hand.

In the Workbench, saved as a document. This is the copy that lasts. The chat scrolls away; the Workbench keeps every run, so you can compare this Monday against three Mondays ago.

Your Home screen also lists your automations, which is the quickest way to see everything running without opening each specialist in turn.

Step 5 - Change where or when it arrives

Say so in the chat that owns the report — "move this to 7 AM", "make it Mondays only" — and Sam updates the automation.

Moving a report to a different owner is a rebuild rather than an edit, because the automation belongs to the chat it was created in. Ask the new owner for the report you want, then turn the old one off.

To turn one off, open the Settings tab, expand Automations under Specialist Settings, and use its toggle. It stops running without being deleted, so you can bring it back later.

Tip

Keep reports where the related work happens rather than gathering them all in one chat. Ad numbers next to your ads work means the follow-up question you ask has the right context around it.

What Sam does after you set this up
  • ✓At the time you set, the report is delivered into the chat that owns it, and emailed to you if you asked for that.
  • ✓Every run, a copy is saved to the Workbench so nothing scrolls away.
  • ✓On your Home screen, every automation you have is listed in one place.
  • ✓When you change your mind, a sentence in the chat is enough to move the timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a report emailed to me?
Yes. Ask for it when you set the report up, or say so later in the chat that owns it. The chat and Workbench copies carry on as normal.

Can two people get the same report?
Reports land in the chat rather than being sent to a person, so anyone with access to that chat sees it. The Workbench copy can be shared like any other document.

What timezone does Sam use if I do not say?
Sam will assume one and tell you what it picked when it confirms the schedule. Check that confirmation, and correct it there and then if it is wrong.

Can I move a report to a different specialist?
Not directly. Ask the specialist you want it to live with for the same report, then switch the original off from the Settings tab.

Where do I see everything that is scheduled?
Your Home screen lists your automations. For one specialist's set, open its Settings tab and expand Automations.
