Connect your Google apps and Sam can put its work where you already keep yours: events on your calendar, reports in Sheets, drafts in Docs, decks in Slides and emails from your Gmail. Each app connects separately, so you choose exactly which ones Sam can use.
What Sam can look up in Google Workspace
- Calendar: events on your main calendar, and the details of any one of them
- Docs: the full contents of a document
- Drive: files Sam can open, their details, and their contents, including Docs, Sheets and Slides saved as a standard file
- Sheets: a spreadsheet's tabs and the values in any range of cells
- Slides: a presentation's slides and layouts, and a preview image of any slide
What Sam can do in Google Workspace
- Calendar: add, change and delete events on your main calendar
- Docs: create a new document, and add, replace or remove text in one
- Drive: create or upload a file, and rename or update a file's details. Asks you first.
- Gmail: send an email from your Gmail address
- Sheets: create a spreadsheet, write values into cells, add new rows, and add tabs or formatting
- Slides: create a presentation, and add slides, text, shapes and images to it
Anything marked Asks you first pauses and waits for you to confirm before it runs.
What Sam can't do in Google Workspace yet
- Open any file in your Drive on its own. For Docs, Drive, Sheets and Slides, Sam can open files it created itself, plus the ones you pick with Choose from Drive on that app's connection.
- Work with calendars other than your main one yet.
Connect Google Workspace
- →A Google account with the apps you want Sam to use.
Step 1 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for the Google app you want, such as Google Sheets or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 2 - Sign in and approve
Select Connect. Sam shows what it will be able to do, then sends you to Google Workspace's own sign-in page. Sign in with the account you want Sam to work in and approve the access.
Step 3 - Name it and choose who can use it
Give the connection a name, choose who on your team can use it, and select Finish setup. It moves to your Connected tab.
Each Google app is its own connection: Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Gmail, Google Sheets and Google Slides. Repeat these steps for each one you want Sam to use. For Docs, Drive, Sheets and Slides, open the connection afterwards and use Choose from Drive to pick any existing files Sam should be able to open.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Google Workspace later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sam says it can't find my spreadsheet. Why?
Sam can only open files it created, or files you've shared with it. Open the Google Sheets connection in Sam, select Choose from Drive, and pick the spreadsheet. The same goes for Docs, Drive and Slides.
Do I have to connect every Google app?
No. Connect only the ones you want Sam to use. Each app has its own connection, and you can add or remove them at any time.
Why can't Sam see everything in my Drive?
Sam asks Google for access to individual files rather than your whole Drive, so it only ever sees what it made or what you chose to share with it.
