Connect Notion and Sam can work from the notes, plans and databases you already keep there, and write back into them: new pages, updated properties, and fresh content added to a page. Sam only sees the pages you share with it.
What Sam can look up in Notion
- Any page or database you've shared with Sam, found by searching
- A page's properties and everything written on it
- A database's structure and its entries, filtered and sorted
What Sam can do in Notion
- Create a new page, on its own or as an entry in a database
- Update a page's properties, or archive and restore a page
- Add new content to the end of a page
What Sam can't do in Notion yet
- See pages you haven't shared with it. Notion only lets an integration into the pages you pick.
- Edit or remove content that's already on a page. Sam adds to the end instead.
Connect Notion
- →A Notion account with access to the pages you want Sam to use.
Step 1 - Create a Notion integration
- Go to notion.so/my-integrations and create an internal integration.
- Copy its token. It starts with ntn_.
- Share each page and database Sam should use: open it, select ... > Connections, and pick your integration.
Step 2 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Notion or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 3 - Paste it in and connect
Select Notion, paste what you copied into the fields Sam shows, and select Connect. Once it succeeds, it moves to your Connected tab.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Notion later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sam says it can't find a page I know exists. Why?
The page hasn't been shared with the integration. Open it in Notion, select ... > Connections, and add your integration. Sharing a parent page shares the pages inside it too.
Can Sam fill in a Notion database for me?
Yes. Sam can add entries to a database you've shared, as long as the fields it fills in match the columns the database already has.
