What each specialist knows how to do

Skills are instruction sets that teach a specialist to do a specific task the same way every time.

A skill might teach a specialist to write product descriptions in your brand voice, validate a YouTube topic before scripting it, or audit a landing page for conversion problems. Once a specialist has a skill, it follows those instructions consistently rather than approaching the task differently each time.

Every account gets its skills automatically. There is nothing to browse, buy or install — your specialists arrive with the skills that suit their work already in place.

Where to Find Skills

Open Sam or any specialist and select the Settings tab in the panel on the right. Skills is the first section. The header shows how many that specialist has available, and USING means it is drawing on them.

Expand the section to see them listed under System, each with its name and a line on what it adds. Search skills narrows a long list.

The Skills section open at the top of the Specialist Settings panel, listing three system skills above Tools, Connected apps, Automations and Personality & instructions

Skills belong to the specialist you have open, so the list changes as you move between them. Your Ads Specialist carries ad-focused skills your Content Specialist does not.

There Is Nothing to Set Up

Skills are background capability rather than something you configure. They are included, always available, and applied automatically when the work calls for them. You never name one in a request — ask for what you want in plain language and the right skill gets used.

Asking Sam for a New Skill

If you want a specialist to handle something a particular way every time, ask Sam in a conversation. Describe what the skill should do and the rules it should follow, and Sam builds it, the same way it sets up an automation for you.

Be specific about what good output looks like: the steps to follow, the terms to use or avoid, and anything about your business it should always account for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a skill?

A: A set of instructions that teaches a specialist to do one task consistently, such as writing in your brand voice or running a particular analysis. It gives a specialist a repeatable capability rather than a one-off result.

Q: Do I need to install skills before my team can do anything?

A: No. Skills come with your account and are already available to the specialists they suit. There is nothing to add.

Q: Where did the skills marketplace go?

A: It has been removed. Everything that was in it now comes with every account automatically, so there is nothing left to browse or install. Playbooks are where you go to pick something to run.

Q: Do skills cost anything?

A: No. They are included with your account.

Q: What is the difference between a skill and a playbook?

A: A skill teaches a specialist how to do something. A playbook is a workflow you run to get a specific piece of work made, and it can draw on skills to do it. Skills are capability, playbooks are action.

Q: Can I still make my own skill?

A: Yes. Ask Sam in a conversation and describe what you want the skill to do.

Q: Do I have to tell a specialist which skill to use?

A: No. Ask for what you want in plain language and the right skill gets applied.
