Use Datadog with Sam

Connect Datadog and Sam can check on your systems without you opening the console: which monitors are alerting, what a metric has done over the last day, and whether an incident is open. It can also mute a monitor that's firing when you already know why.

  • Your monitors, searched by name or tag
  • Metric data over any time range
  • Incidents and scheduled downtimes

  • Open or update incidents yet.

Connect Datadog

What you'll need
  • →Access to your Datadog organisation settings, to find the API key and create an application key.

Step 1 - Get your Datadog API and application keys

  1. In Datadog, go to Organization Settings > API Keys and copy an API key.
  2. Go to Organization Settings > Application Keys and create an application key.
  3. Copy both. Sam needs the pair.

Step 2 - Open the integrations marketplace

Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Datadog or find it under Browse Integrations.

Step 3 - Paste it in and connect

Select Datadog, paste what you copied into the fields Sam shows, and select Connect. Once it succeeds, it moves to your Connected tab.

Leave every permission ticked

When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.

If Sam says it can't reach Datadog later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Sam tell me why something is alerting?
Sam can read the monitor, its current state and the metric behind it, and summarise what changed. The fix is still yours to make.

Does muting a monitor delete it?
No. Muting pauses its alerts. The monitor keeps running and you can unmute it in Datadog.
