Connect your Instagram Business or Creator account and Sam can publish photos, Reels, Stories and carousels, reply to comments, and read your engagement figures. Publishing and replying wait for you to confirm first. Instagram is its own connection, separate from Meta Ads and Facebook Pages.
What Sam can look up in Instagram
- Your profile, follower count and account-level reach and impressions
- Your recent posts and each post's reach, likes, comments, shares and saves
- The comments on any of your posts
- Whether a Reel or video is processed and ready to publish
What Sam can do in Instagram
- Prepare a photo, Reel, Story or carousel of up to 10 items, ready to publish. Nothing goes live at this stage.
- Publish a prepared post to your account. Asks you first.
- Reply publicly to a comment on one of your posts. Asks you first.
Anything marked Asks you first pauses and waits for you to confirm before it runs.
What Sam can't do in Instagram yet
- Read or send direct messages.
- Edit or delete a post once it is published.
Connect Instagram
- →An Instagram Business or Creator account.
- →A Facebook Page linked to that Instagram account. The sign-in happens through Facebook.
Step 1 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Instagram or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 2 - Sign in and approve
Select Connect. Sam shows what it will be able to do, then sends you to Facebook's own sign-in page. Sign in with the account you want Sam to work in and approve the access.
Step 3 - Name it and choose who can use it
Give the connection a name, choose who on your team can use it, and select Finish setup. It moves to your Connected tab.
Sam fills in your Instagram account if Facebook shares only one. If it shares several, the connection shows Setup Required until you choose: pick the account from the Instagram Account ID dropdown, then select Finish setup. You can change it later under Additional Settings with Save Settings.
You can also connect with Use access token instead and paste a long-lived Meta access token or System User token that has Instagram permissions.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Instagram later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Meta Ads or Facebook Pages connected as well?
No. Instagram connects on its own. It does need a Facebook Page linked to your Instagram account inside Meta, because that is how Instagram Business and Creator accounts sign in, but you do not need Sam's Facebook Pages connection.
Will Sam post without asking?
No. Sam can prepare a post without asking, but publishing it always stops and asks you to confirm first. Replying to a comment asks too.
Can Sam post at a set time?
Yes. Instagram's own scheduling isn't connected, so Sam schedules itself instead: ask it to post at the time you want and it sets up a Sam automation that publishes then. See Pause, edit, or stop any automation.
Why do I sign in with Facebook?
Instagram Business and Creator accounts connect through the Facebook Page they are linked to. Sign in with the Facebook account that manages that Page.
