Connect Mailchimp and Sam can work with your real audiences: find any subscriber, keep tags and details up to date, and set up and send campaigns. Anything that emails your list waits for you to confirm first.
What Sam can look up in Mailchimp
- Your account details and plan
- Your audiences, with their segments, tags and merge fields
- Any subscriber, found by email or name, with their tags and details
- Who is in a particular segment
- Your campaigns and their settings
What Sam can do in Mailchimp
- Add new subscribers to an audience and update their details
- Add or remove tags on a subscriber
- Create a draft campaign with its audience, subject line and sender. Asks you first.
- Send a campaign to its audience or segment. Sending is immediate and can't be recalled. Asks you first.
- Archive a subscriber, which removes them from the audience. It can't be undone from Sam. Asks you first.
Anything marked Asks you first pauses and waits for you to confirm before it runs.
What Sam can't do in Mailchimp yet
- Write the email itself into a Mailchimp campaign. Sam writes it in Sam, and you paste it into the draft.
- Create new audiences or segments. Sam works with the ones you already have.
- Build or edit your Mailchimp automations.
Connect Mailchimp
- →A Mailchimp account, and permission to authorise apps on it. If someone else owns the account, they will need to do this step.
Step 1 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Mailchimp or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 2 - Sign in and approve
Select Connect. Sam shows what it will be able to do, then sends you to Mailchimp's own sign-in page. Sign in with the account you want Sam to work in and approve the access.
Step 3 - Name it and choose who can use it
Give the connection a name, choose who on your team can use it, and select Finish setup. It moves to your Connected tab.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Mailchimp later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will Sam email my list without asking?
No. Sending a campaign always stops and asks you to confirm first. Creating a draft also asks, so nothing appears in your account that you didn't approve.
Can Sam send a campaign at a set time?
Yes. Mailchimp's own scheduler isn't connected, so Sam schedules itself instead: ask it to send the campaign at the time you want and it sets up a Sam automation that sends it then. You can see and change it like any other automation. See Pause, edit, or stop any automation.
Can I connect more than one Mailchimp account?
Yes. Open the integration again and choose Add Another Connection. Name each one so you can tell them apart.
Does Sam unsubscribe people when I ask it to remove them?
It can do either. Ask Sam to unsubscribe someone if you want them kept on record but not emailed. Ask it to archive them if you want them out of the audience.
