Connect Metabase and Sam can answer questions from the reports you already built: find a dashboard or saved question, run it, and explain the result. The connection is read-only.

Connect Metabase
- →Admin access to Metabase, to create an API key.
Step 1 - Create an API key in Metabase
- In Metabase, go to Admin > Settings > Authentication > API Keys and create a key.
- Copy the key.
- Note your domain: the subdomain of your Metabase Cloud address, such as yourcompany from yourcompany.metabaseapp.com.
Step 2 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Metabase or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 3 - Paste it in and connect
Select Metabase, paste what you copied into the fields Sam shows, and select Connect. Once it succeeds, it moves to your Connected tab.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Metabase later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Sam see every dashboard?
Sam sees what the API key can see. If a dashboard is missing, check the key's permissions in Metabase.
Are the numbers live?
Yes. When Sam runs a saved question, Metabase runs it against your database there and then.
