Sam can follow up after someone buys, ask for a review at a point where they are likely to give one, and keep doing it on every sale without you remembering to. It is an event automation: the purchase fires it, not the clock.
Your Promotions Specialist handles this — the specialist for offers, sequences and social proof.
- →Your store or payment platform connected, so Sam can see real orders and know who bought what and when. Connect a tool to Sam.
- →Your email platform connected, since the follow-up goes out as an email.
- →Somewhere for reviews to land — the review platform or form you already use.
Step 1 - Ask for the follow-up
Open Promotions Specialist under Your Marketing Team and describe it:
“After someone buys, follow up and ask for a review. Show me the email before it goes anywhere.”
Sam asks the questions that decide whether it works: which purchase should fire it, how long to wait, and where the review should go. Answer in the chat — you never fill in a form.
Step 2 - Pick the trigger
Sam builds the automation for you, but it is worth knowing what it built. Every automation has a Trigger, and there are three kinds:
- →Schedule — runs on a clock. Every Monday at 8 AM, weekdays at 11 AM.
- →Event — runs when something happens in your business. This is the one you want here.
- →Condition — runs when a state you describe becomes true.
With Event selected you choose which one fires it. Order completed is the review-request trigger: it fires on a purchase.
Step 3 - Get the timing right
Timing is most of it. Ask too early and they have not used the thing yet; too late and the purchase is forgotten.
- →Time it to the product, not the order. A week after coffee arrives, they have drunk it. A week after a coat arrives in July, they have not worn it.
- →Account for delivery, so the clock starts when the thing lands rather than when the payment cleared.
- →Ask once, follow up once. A single reminder is fine. Three is a complaint waiting to happen.
- →Say where the review goes — the link, the platform, or a reply to the email.
Tell Sam to send this as a sequence enrolment or a tagged send, not a broadcast. A broadcast goes to your whole filtered list rather than the one person who just bought — Sam will flag this itself, but it is easier to say up front.
Step 4 - Approve the email
The draft arrives in the Promotions Specialist chat and saves to the Workbench. Read it as a customer would: it should sound like the shop they bought from, ask for one thing, and be short.
Change what you want — “make it warmer”, “drop the discount offer”, “mention the product by name” — and Sam rewrites it. Once you approve, that becomes the email that goes out on every qualifying sale.
Ask Sam to skip customers who have had a refund or an open support issue. A review request landing on a bad week does more damage than the review would have done good.
Step 5 - Switch it on and watch it run
Sam leaves a new automation disabled until you are happy with it. Open the Promotions Specialist's Settings tab, expand Automations, and you will see it listed with its trigger shown as On order.completed and a toggle to turn it on.
The clock icon on the automation opens its Run History, showing each time the follow-up fired. Success means it went out; Partial and Failed carry a message, usually a store or email connection that needs renewing.
After a few weeks, ask the Promotions Specialist what came back. Reviews are worth more than sitting on the platform they landed on — Sam can build them into offer copy and social proof. See Collect testimonials from recent buyers.
- ✓On every qualifying sale, Sam waits the period you set before doing anything.
- ✓Then, the approved email goes out asking for a review, pointing where you told it to.
- ✓On every run, the send is logged so you can see how many went out.
- ✓Whenever you want, ask what came back and put the reviews to work elsewhere.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it email customers without me seeing the message first?
No. Sam leaves the automation switched off until you approve the email. That approved version is what goes out from then on, and you can change it any time in the chat.
What else can fire an automation?
Order completed, Subscription created, Subscription cancelled, Customer created and Product published. Anything on a clock instead uses a Schedule trigger.
Can I exclude some customers?
Yes. Describe who to skip — refunds, wholesale orders, a particular product — and Sam applies it.
How do the reviews get to me?
Wherever you tell Sam to send people. The email points at your review platform, a form, or simply asks for a reply.
Can it ask for a written testimonial rather than a star rating?
Yes. Say which you want and Sam writes the ask accordingly.
Does it use credits?
Yes, on each run. A follow-up that fires on every sale runs more often than a scheduled report, so watch it for the first week. Track what Sam is spending for you.
