Connect Airtable and Sam can work with the bases you already run your business from: read any table, add and update records, and keep lists in sync with what it finds elsewhere. Deleting records always waits for you to confirm first.
What Sam can look up in Airtable
- The bases your token can reach, and the tables and fields inside each one
- Records in any of those tables, filtered to what you ask about
What Sam can do in Airtable
- Add new records to a table
- Update existing records, changing only the fields you mention
- Update a record if it already exists, or add it if it doesn't, matched on a field you choose
- Delete records. This can't be undone. Asks you first.
Anything marked Asks you first pauses and waits for you to confirm before it runs.
What Sam can't do in Airtable yet
- Create new bases, tables or fields. Sam works with the structure you already have.
- Reach a base you haven't granted the token access to.
Connect Airtable
- →An Airtable account with access to the bases you want Sam to use.
Step 1 - Create a personal access token in Airtable
- Go to airtable.com/create/tokens and create a personal access token.
- Give it these three scopes: data.records:read, data.records:write and schema.bases:read.
- Grant it access to every base Sam should reach, then copy the token.
Step 2 - Open the integrations marketplace
Select Connect your tools at the bottom of the left sidebar, above your profile. Search for Airtable or find it under Browse Integrations.
Step 3 - Paste it in and connect
Select Airtable, paste what you copied into the fields Sam shows, and select Connect. Once it succeeds, it moves to your Connected tab.
When you connect, you may see a screen of checkboxes, and some are easy to scroll past. Sam can only do what you allow. If you untick one, the matching actions in the list above will fail with a permission error.
If Sam says it can't reach Airtable later on, see When Sam can't reach one of your tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sam says it can't open one of my bases. Why?
Scopes and base access are two separate settings on an Airtable token. Check the token has all three scopes and that the base is in its access list. Missing either one gives the same error.
Will Sam overwrite fields I didn't mention?
No. When Sam updates a record, it changes only the fields you asked about and leaves the rest alone.
